Thrifty Mango Book Club: The Midnight Library

It's not often a book as thought-provoking as The Midnight Library by Matt Haig comes along. Have you ever thought about what you would change about your life if you could go back in time? What decisions would you make differently? How do you think that decision would change your life?...

Graduation: The Next Chapter

On the 8th of September four years ago, I started the biggest and scariest journey of my life - I moved 172 miles from home to study journalism at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. Now I'm beginning a new, even bigger journey- adult life.

The Thrifty Lookbook: Spring Edition

With temperatures finally rising and skies finally clearing in Scotland in Scotland, now is the time to swap out our winter coats for light, colourful clothing. Spring is associated with floral patterns, pastel colours and light layering. All of this can be achieved with pre-loved clothing. Thrifty fashion is more versatile than most people give it credit for and- with the right pieces- you can create a wardrobe of virtually any style. This new series- along with my Be Adventurous series- serves as proof of just what pre-owned pieces are capable of. So, I've compiled some spring outfits using only secondhand clothing (except shoes)...

A Very Nerdy Weekend

What better way to relax after a long, hard week of fourth-year university than a weekend of cosplaying, walking around stalls and listening to panels? A couple of weekends ago, Ryan and I attended Comic Con Aberdeen in cosplay for the very first time. We'd both been to a few Cons before and had thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the amazing cosplays and artists there...

Thrifty Mango Book Club: The Authenticity Project

While visiting home during the summer, my mum, Ryan and I went on a wee day out thrifting in Troon. It was a lovely day out, finding hidden gems in charity shops before recharging in The Poppy Room cafe. While in an Oxfam book and music shop, a certain book caught my eye. Drawn in by its bright and cheerful cover and intriguing title, I decided to buy it without much hesitation- it looked exactly like my type of book- especially for £2.50. This was well before The Thrifty Mango Book Club even existed...

Style Essentials: Autumn

What do you love most about autumn? Is it the crunchy bronze leaves littering the pavements? Or the assortment of "pumpkin-spiced" coffees in cafes at this time of year? I love the fashion in the colder months. I love being able to cosy up in comfy jumpers and coats and explore the practicality of fashion. Being able to stay chic during autumn and winter is super important to me- I've written posts about it before. But today, I'll be sharing my style essentials for this season...

Thrifty Mango Book Club: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

books then you've watched a few of the films at least. I've wanted to revisit the books for quite some time now. I read all the books twice throughout my school years but haven't touched them since. I have an embarrassing amount of Harry Potter Merchandise, including Luna Lovegood's wand, a Hufflepuff hat and scarf set, a Gryffindor scarf, golden snitch earrings and multiple handbags. After moving to Aberdeen, I lost touch with the series due to not having a TV in my student accommodation and leaving my books at home. So, why not revisit the first book with me? Or read it for the first time?...

Secondhand September: My Latest Thrifty Finds

This month is a great time of year for the zero waste community as it's #SecondhandSeptember. This is a social media trend that challenges us all to only buy thrifted clothing and accessories for a whole month. As many of you know, I already do this. At the beginning of the year, I decided I would only buy pre-loved clothes in 2021, and it's going well so far. I'm lucky to enjoy thrifting and love having a good rummage about for hidden gems. So, after a few months of no shopping at all recently, I was embarrassingly desperate to have a browse in the local charity shops again. So, in the space of a few days, I managed to build up an impressive haul of pre-loved items, and I'd like to share them with you all...
